[ At first, his expression is frustrated--angry. Then he reads that last line, and it crumples into something extremely upset ] Now that is wholly untrue.
[He so badly wants to argue. He knows it makes logical sense, but he can't see this as being directly Oswald's fault. Indirectly seems pointless, to him.
But he's trying to come at this logically. That isn't going to work, is it?
[Oswald looks at his phone, brow furrowing, obviously expecting more of a fight--and there's a moment of surprise when he doesn't get it. And his expression crumples into something pained. It takes him a moment to control himself enough to respond]
Thank you.
[ he wipes a hand under his eyes, quickly, after flipping his phone closed ]
[ Oswald reads that...then reads it again, mouth pressing into a line as he works to control his emotions, brow deeply furrowed. It takes him a couple breaths....Then he just looks at the camera and nods. He understands. Then he'll text back.]
[ --then something seems to catch his attention inside the apartment. And he's shifting up just a bit, cautiously peering in the window, clearly trying catch a glimpse of whatever he's hearing. ]
[The buzzing of his cellphone draws Oswald's attention, and he glances down at it, before glancing to the camera and holding up a finger--one moment--before turning his attention back to the window. His expression isn't apprehensive or worried, though, it's...soft. Pained. Bittersweet. Whatever he's watching, it's...important, but not life-threatening.]
[another long moment--and then Oswald is jerking back against the wall, behind the windowsill. Another second, and then the light inside goes dark. And Oswald lets out a breath, sighing. He tilts his head back a moment against the wall, eyes closed, as if committing whatever that was to memory...before he tilts his head back down to answer the text]
[Edward waits, one moment or two more, before he goes and marches to the other alley. When he arrives, he looks down at the ground and picks up the nearest small object. A can, as it turns out.
Then he throws it up at the fire escape.
Despite him being a spindly nerd, Edward has great aim.]
[Not expecting Edward to come into the alley, much less throw a can at him, Oswald startles pretty badly, the metal of the fire escape rattling as he scrambles to his feet, leaning over the railing as Edward shouts at him. For a moment, he only stares, blinking owlishly as he leans over the railing to look down at him.]
Ah--I'm...[which is when those words sink in] Oh. I thought--I thought you were talking about me getting caught.
Wait--wait, so you used your cameras to watch me from the next alley over and then texted me when you could've just walked over here and talked to me?!

Because he's not going to be an asshole and interrupt this when Oswald looks like this, okay. Like. He COULD, but he won't, because fuck it.]
