He's not entirely sure how, but he is. He's also sitting inside a taxi, fingers shaking as he dials Edward's number. He's muttering to himself under his breath, quietly]
It doesn't make sense--why didn't she--this is impossible--
[so this is what you're going to have to deal with. Ring ring, Edward]
It’s impossible. It should be impossible. But Galavan was alive again so not impossible—IMPROBABLE! [yeah he sure did shout that, startling the taxi driver quite a bit ]
[Edward starts trying to say something a few times, but Oswald just keeps going. In the end, he ends up just staring ahead and letting the rant happen.
There's a second of two of silence after he finally finished.
She’s my former boss. Kind of. Well, not kind of, she WAS, and then I snitched because I could see she was going to cause a war while trying to take over from Falcone, and then she was going to kill me because snitches always have to die if they’re caught but I convinced Falcone to have Jim shoot me because he was new on the force and I knew that he would find a way not to kill me—
—and he did, so then I came back and she wanted me dead then but Maroni wouldn’t allow it, so then I helped Falcone expose her, and then she was supposed to be dead but then she wasn’t, but she left? Or was supposed to be dead again?
[the fuck if i know oswald your show is a nightmare]
Oh, no, that’s right she was supposed to be dead again and I have no idea how she came back but she did, right after I started a war between Falcone and Maroni—
—and she sided with Maroni obviously but Maroni is an idiot who would never give Fish an equal spot which she didn’t like so she killed him, which started a fire fight that let me escape—
—so I went after her and we wound up on the roof and I ordered Butch to shoot her but he didn’t want to but then he did anyway, and he also shot me, which was rather annoying, but then I was able to shove her off the roof and into the river and I killed her.
Well, whatever her reasons for leaving you alive are, I think that the fact that you are, in fact, still breathing is very much the point. In my own opinion.
Although yes, I do have to wonder how you're still alive. Not just because of this sudden return, but in general.
[HOW, OSWALD...]
...And I think maybe you should start burning the bodies when you kill people.
And as I've told you, I have a talent for predicting outcomes. Sometimes to get the right outcome, you have to...take a few risks. Sometimes that means you suffer some damage, physical or otherwise. But as long as you can pick yourself up, it's perfectly bearable.
...it's tempting, honestly. This whole "people coming back from the dead actually" thing is a very recent development, but that might be a good solution.
Maybe she felt you weren't worth the effort. Maybe she meant to send some sort of message. Maybe it didn't mean anything at all.
Once she's dead again as she should be, is it really going to matter to you? Because you might be better off just enjoying the light from the fire as you burn her corpse.
It matters because I can't predict what she's going to do! [and there it is, the crux of the matter. Oswald plays chess with the world on a constant basis; it's how he succeeds, how he survives. But Fish acting opposite of how he predicted? That's what's sending him into a panic.]

No, Edward, the point is why. What is her reasoning? Why would she not kill me right there?!

You're fine with that, really?

[That makes him pause. Because, really. That's what Oswald does. That's how he conducts his business, that's how he's lasted as long as he has.
So.
Maybe that's valid.]
